A worker dies after falling from the Coral Gables building

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A worker fell from a building in Coral Gables and died on Wednesday, police said.

The incident happened in the afternoon hours near the intersection of Alhambra Circle and Salzedo Street in the city’s downtown.

Police had cordoned off part of Salzedo Street with crime scene tape when the victim’s body was lying on the street.

Officer Kelly Denham, a spokesman for the Coral Gables Police Department, said the Miami-Dade Police Department would handle the death investigation.

People who were in the building at the time told Local 10 News that window cleaners were working at the building on Wednesday, and police later confirmed that the man was cleaning the windows there.

Jose Sampron told Local 10 News he saw the man just before the tragic fall.

Sampron says the victim was young, used a pressure washer and worked with a crew.

“One cried against the palm tree. It was. It was awful,” he said.

Investigators said it was unclear how tall the man was when he came down.

Local 10 news cameras were rolling when federal investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, better known as OSHA, arrived at the scene.

Officials are still trying to figure out what went wrong.

The police have not identified the victim.
