A woman’s death in a cruise ship’s cabin has been investigated as “suspicious”.
A woman has been found dead in a cruise ship cabin and is being investigated as “suspicious” by the FBI.
The woman was found unresponsive aboard the Carnival Sunshine, which departed Charleston, South Carolina for the Bahamas on February 27.
When the cruise ship’s medical staff and other workers heard about the woman, “they immediately attempted life-saving measures,” a spokesman for the FBI’s Columbia, South Carolina field office said Sunday.
“Despite their best efforts, the passenger on the ship was pronounced dead,” the FBI spokesman said.
On Saturday, the ship returned to Charleston and the FBI went through the deceased passenger’s cabin looking for evidence.
“Both the deceased and her husband disembarked in Nassau and the Bahamian authorities have already investigated the circumstances and are conducting an autopsy,” Matt Lupoli, spokesman for Carnival Cruise Line, told CNN.
“We fully cooperate. This is a matter for the authorities in the Bahamas and Charleston and we have no further comment.’
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The FBI is investigating suspicious deaths of US citizens and “certain crimes on the high seas,” the agency said.
