A woman had an allergic reaction after an Aer Lingus worker said the airline is nut-free

A TikToker has taken to the platform to voice her grievances at an airline after her sister had an allergic reaction to her inflight meal. The video has garnered more than 848,000 views since its release.
User @aly_sf says in the video that before accepting the inflight meal offered to her by an Aer Lingus flight attendant, her sister asked if the meal was nut-free because her sister has severe allergies. The creator shares with her viewers that the flight attendant informed her that Aer Lingus is a nut-free airline and clarified that this covers all nuts.
@aly_sf in reply to @mr_culkeen Please imagine how scary it is to be 40,000ft in the air unaided. I thought she was dying because @aerlingus wasn’t willing to help. #airlinestory #aerlingus #allergicreaction ♬ Original sound – Alessandra West ✨
However, less than 20 seconds after her sister started eating, her throat began to swell.
“It was so immediate [the flight attendant] was still here in our aisle, so I said, ‘My sister is having an allergic reaction right now, I need to know what was in that meal,'” she says. “He said, ‘Well, I can’t guarantee there weren’t any nuts in it, but we’re a nut-free airline.'”
When she then asked for a second bun because her sister had discovered that eating high-carb foods like bread and crackers can help lessen the effects of an allergic reaction because they absorb the allergen, the flight attendant reportedly shook his head and said : “not possible.”
“He said, ‘Everyone has to have one before I can give you a second one,'” she says in the video. “I said, ‘I’m not asking for seconds, I’m trying to save my sister’s life.’ And he said, ‘Well, people are going to be upset if you get two and they don’t even get one.’ How upset will people be if there’s a body on the plane?”
The flight attendant eventually informed her that he could not help her as her sister was having a life-threatening allergic reaction until he was done eating on the plane.
“The scariest thing is that we were 40,000 feet in the air and I thought nobody here is ready to help us and I have to watch my sister die,” she says.
When the flight attendant showed no help, the TikToker said her sister went to the bathroom and vomited. About two hours after taking Benadryl, the swelling started to go down.
“If you value your life or love the people you travel with, don’t travel with Aer Lingus because they’re willing to just wrap you in a body bag for everyone to get meal service,” says the creator.
Commentators were quick to criticize the flight attendants for their callousness and lack of clarity about the presence of nuts in the inflight meal.
“The fact that the warden couldn’t understand that this was a serious situation is insane,” wrote one commenter. “They shouldn’t be flight attendants.”
“My brother also has a severe nut allergy,” wrote another commenter. “If someone says, ‘We’re a crazy airline,’ but then says, ‘We can’t guarantee?!’ Forgiveness?!”
“Certainly the only response is to cease service,” wrote one commenter. “Give her the role, ask the passengers if anyone is medically trained and contact the captain to land the plane as soon as possible.”
