A TikToker reportedly bought green lobster from Whole Foods

In a viral video, TikToker Brandi Cooper (@baddiebee100) shows her followers lobster covered in a green substance she said she bought from a Whole Foods location in Atlanta.

The overlay text reads “Whole foods are counting your days!!” accompanied by puking and angry emoji. She captioned the video: “I couldn’t even return it. I’m so crazy.”

The video has garnered over 73,600 views since it was posted on June 7th.

In the comments section, a user asked why Cooper couldn’t return the Hummer. Cooper replied, saying, “I didn’t have my receipt so I couldn’t return it, even though there was a clear timestamp from the deli showing I bought it the day before.”

Other users asked and shared their thoughts on what the green substance is.

“It’s the Tomalley. The FDA says not to eat them because of some recent problems with shellfish on the East Coast, but they are sometimes consumed,” said one user.

Tomalley is the soft green mass in a lobster’s body, also known as the digestive gland, or a combination of the liver and pancreas. Commonly eaten as a delicacy in New England, tomalley can be laced with toxins that can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) and lead to lobster recall.

In 2008, the FDA stated that these toxins are potentially dangerous and that coasts are constantly monitored for levels of such toxins. There are currently no Hummer recalls in effect.

Some commenters say the substance is often found in lobster meat, encouraging Cooper to “get a man.”

“Let me guess, this is your first time buying fresh lobster, right?” said one user.

“Lmao ever had a lobster?? Totally normal,” commented another user.

“You bloody lobster connoisseurs are killing me,” Cooper said in response to the comment. She continued, “It’s a first time for everything and this was my first time seeing it in the comments along with other people.”

The Daily Dot contacted Cooper via TikTok comment and Whole Foods via email.
