A shootout ensues after a man stole a gun outside a St. Louis County store

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Three people, including a suspected gun thief and two innocent bystanders, were injured in a shooting outside a north St. Louis County store Friday afternoon.

Police said a person with a gun went into the Wellston Food Market on Block 6200 of Page Avenue around 2:50 p.m. According to authorities, this person did not use the weapon in a threatening manner.

After leaving the store, a man approached the person carrying the gun and demanded the gun. The person complied and handed over the gun. Police said the robbery victim went to a vehicle, took another gun and shot the suspect. A shootout broke out between the two parties.

During the shooting, two innocent bystanders were shot. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The man who took the gun was shot multiple times. The victim of the robbery left the scene, but police believe another man returned moments later and also shot the man who was taking the gun.

Officers found the suspected robber lying in front of the store with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
