A shark attack in New Caledonia kills an Australian tourist

A 59-year-old Australian was killed by a shark while swimming in New Caledonia on Sunday.
The man was vacationing in the countryside and was attacked while swimming near a pontoon about 150 meters from shore on Chateau Royal Beach in Noumea.

Local news outlets report that the man was brought to a landing on a jet ski, where attempts were made to revive him, but he died from his injuries.
Beaches in the area have been closed and a ‘new shark culling campaign is already planned’ The French Pacific Journal reported.
A 49-year-old woman was seriously injured after being bitten by a bull shark on the same beach on January 29.
She has since been treated at an Australian hospital.
