A retail worker says the customer left a bad review after he wasn’t around

In a viral video, TikToker Dhwanika (@dhwanika01) shared an interaction with a rude customer at the scrubs retail store where she works. The video has garnered over 734,200 views since it was shared yesterday.

“I swear to God, if you’re thinking of getting a customer service job, please don’t,” she urges at the beginning of the clip.

Dhwanika, who has worked at the store for two years, approached a woman who entered the store 30 minutes before closing. She made sure the customer knew the store’s opening hours and then let the woman poke around.

“At 6:50 p.m. I tell her, ‘Miss, we’re closing in ten minutes, so I’m just giving you a hint,'” she says.

Eight minutes later, the woman asked Dhwanika to get some things and continued trying on clothes. At that time, the woman’s creator also informed that the checkout would close in two minutes, but that she could still try on the clothes.

At 7:05 p.m., five minutes after the store closed, Dhwanika asked if there were any items the woman was not considering so she could get the store ready to open the next morning.

“She looks at me bluntly and says, ‘Well, if you’re so late, I’ll just leave that and you can call it out tomorrow,'” Dhwanika recalls. The clerk then told her she could check out her items now and delay closing the register.

“‘You’re lucky I need scrubs today,'” the woman reportedly replied.

Dhwanika then told the woman that she was “doing her a disservice” by checking out now, which resulted in the woman getting hired. The customer allegedly told her that she was only photographing the items and would no longer buy from them.

However, the woman took an additional 10 minutes to try on things before buying $200 worth of clothes. After that, she allegedly posted a review about Dhwanika’s customer service. She even demanded that the TikToker be fired.

“Bitch, I’ve been working here for two years,” Dhwanika says in the clip. “This store works with me.”

The creator even happened to address the woman directly that she was watching the TikTok.

“If you watch this, fuck you,” she concludes, voicing the last part. “If you watch this, never come back on a Monday, Wednesday or weekend because you will see me and I will curse you.”

In the comments section, users with retail experience agreed with Dhwanika.

“People are mean,” said one user.

“Working in retail is a nightmare and you should be paid extra just to deal with people,” commented another.

“Retail is the worst. I swear the last 5 years of retail work has stolen my soul,” said a third user.

Dhwanika then added an update in her comments section.

“Update: My manager said ‘I should be more respectful’ so should I give 2 weeks notice or just not show up?” she asked.

In a second video, Dhwanika shares her manager’s response to the customer review.

“So up until yesterday I was pissed that the lady was being so mean to me, talking to me so badly,” she says. “This morning I’m looking at the review and my manager … let me show you what he wrote.”

“Hi Diana, please reach out to me personally so I can better understand your experience and make changes if needed,” the manager’s comment read.

Dhwanika then announced that she plans to quit. “I don’t take this BS,” she says in the follow-up video.

In the comments, users shared their opinions and discussed how managers should treat their employees.

“Seems like the manager is more concerned with customer reviews/sales than with the well-being of his employees,” said one user.

“Managers and owners need to learn to stand by their employees when they haven’t done anything wrong,” shared another.

The Daily Dot contacted Dhwanika via email.
