- Samsung recently released its September security update for the Galaxy S22.
- After the update, some users report that sending SMS does not work on carrier locked models.
- The bug appears to only affect S22 owners in the US.
Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S22 series just received its September security update. While the update fixes over 20 vulnerabilities, it appears to have broken SMS for some S22 owners.
Discovered by PiunikaWeb, several Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra owners seem to have filed complaints on Samsung’s community forums and Reddit. The complaints claim that users are unable to receive text messages after the latest update.
The issue only seems to affect people in the US with S22 models that are carrier locked. Also, the error is not limited to one carrier; It is used by multiple carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile, and others.
Switching SMS apps doesn’t seem to do much either. It seems that both the default app and the Google Messages app are affected by this error.
However, users report that messages go through after restarting the phone. Once the phone restarts, all missed text messages will appear at once. Corresponding XDA developersome AT&T and T-Mobile say that enabling chat settings or turning the SIM card on and off can also help.
There is currently no word from Samsung on the error. So we don’t know how soon we can expect a fix. Until then, users will only have to rely on workarounds to get their messages.
