A Lyft employee says she was fired 3 days after the welcome pack

A tech worker who shared his welcome pack on TikTok says he was fired from the company just three days later, pointing to a spate of layoffs at big tech companies like Amazon, Lyft and Twitter.
In TikTok posted on November 4th, creator Brittany Yeh (@brittanyyeh) is dueting a video of herself posted 3 days earlier. In the older video on the right side of the screen, Yeh says, “I started at Lyft a few months ago, but I guess they’re just now sending me my welcome pack, so I figured I’d open it with you.” On the left side of the screen, Yeh gestures as if in shock or denial as she watches her past self as she excitedly prepares to open her package. The text overlay reads, “I don’t post my welcome pack for my tech job only to get fired 3 days later LOL.”

Yeh wrote in the comments that she has nothing but love for the company and wishes him well despite her layoff.
“Thanks to everyone who signed up! I just love Lyft. Loved my time there and wish everyone the best,” she wrote. Yeh also attached a follow-up video to the comment, in which she explains that she has been working for Lyft since March and believes she didn’t receive the package sooner because one of the items normally included in the package was out of stock.

Some viewers joked that the package she received from her former employer was accidentally a farewell package due to her being laid off.
“That was your goodbye package,” wrote one commenter.
“It’s not the welcome pack that becomes the farewell pack,” commented another.
Others gave possible reasons for the layoffs that are currently sweeping certain industries.
“Some companies [were] We’re hiring for the holidays and expect high volume but unfortunately it hasn’t picked up so we can expect a lot of layoffs,” wrote one commenter.
“Unfortunately there is a huge layoff and hiring freeze at the moment,” wrote a second. “Sorry to hear that and wish you the best of luck in your search. I work for a large staffing company.”
“To be honest, Lyft and a number of other companies that have reached the peak of the pandemic through IPOs are having a terrible time and the recession,” said another.
The Daily Dot emailed Brittany Yeh and Lyft for comment, but received no response prior to publication.
