Uvalde, Texas – Eliahna Garica loved the Disney film Encanto, and the studio’s costumers sent her parents a custom-made dress and other keepsakes to help them remember the 9-year-old after her funeral.
The family held a funeral for Eliahna, also known as “Ellie,” at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde on Monday, two days after her 10th birthday. she was among 19 students at Robb Elementary School killed in a mass shootingalong with two teachers.
Her family had prepared a big birthday party at her grandmother’s house. Eliahna had hoped for Encanto-related gifts.
“She loved that movie and talked about it a lot,” Aunt Siria Arizmendi told The Associated Press.
San Antonio-area television stations reported that Disney sent a dress similar to that worn by Isabela, the older sister on “Encanto,” who has the special power to grow flowers. The dress is purple and decorated with flowers.
Her aunt, a fifth-grade teacher at Flores Primary School, also in Uvalde, said Eliahna enjoys dancing and playing sports. Her family described her on a GoFundMe page as a sweet girl “with a lovely and beautiful soul.”
Eliahna had already been practicing choreography for a quinceañera party with her older sister, although it would be five more years.
“She was shy but changed in front of the camera,” her aunt said.
