Louisville, Ky. – Rich Strike stormed up the rail to pass the leaders in the closing steps for a stunning 80-1 excitement in the Kentucky Derby.

Jockey Sonny Leon led Rich Strike from far back in the 20-horse field to take on 4-1 favorites Epicenter and Zandon at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Rich Strike wasn’t even in the derby field until Friday, when the Ethereal Road was scratched to make way for the Eric Reed-trained stallion. Both Leon and Reed were in their first derby.
