3 endangered right whales prompt closure of Cape Cod Canal – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(WHDH) — Area residents flocked to the Cape Cod Canal on Sunday hoping to catch a glimpse of the three endangered right whales that prompted the waterway’s temporary closure overnight.
dr Michael Moore of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution said, “The opportunity to see these animals from shore is an experience of a lifetime.”
The Army Corps of Engineers and the US Coast Guard closed the channel to all shipping after the right whales were sighted. Luis Agosto was among those who came down to see her.
“To hear these guys were here is actually quite fascinating. I’m impressed that the state has taken the initiative to basically control traffic here to protect them because they are very vulnerable,” he said.
It is unclear when the waterway will reopen.
