Yesterday’s election results are pouring in and it looks like it was a bad night for Boris Johnson.

Millions of Britons turned out to be polling stations on Thursday (5 May) to cast their vote in this year’s crucial local election.

There are thousands of council seats up for grabs, with the results painting a picture of national sentiment after the pandemic.

Sir Keir Starmer’s Labor Party is on course to absorb a number of councils including Wandsworth, a Tory flagship held by the party since the 1970s.

The Liberal Democrats and the Greens also made significant gains overnight.

Some local Conservative leaders have blamed the party’s poor performance on the recent Partygate scandal and the cost of living crisis.

The count is due to start today in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

All eyes are on the seven key battlegrounds that could potentially reverse control of the party – including Wandsworth and Bolton.

Follow’s ongoing live coverage of the results as they come out. 2022 local election results live: Labor gains on a bad night for Tories
