Superior is about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Denver. Louisville is just 4 miles (6 km) northeast of Superior.

A nearby section of US Highway 36 was also closed because of the fire.

The blaze northwest of Superior was among a number of fires that started in the area on Thursday, at least some of which were caused by cut power lines, as winds gusted up to 105 mph (169 km/h). ), according to the National Weather Service.
