16-year-old Walmart employee says she was fired over TikTok videos

A Walmart employee says she was fired after she shared a video of her day doing inventory at the store where she worked, racking up over 140,000 views on the platform.

In the video in which she was allegedly fired, user Steph (@stephunleashed) shows her 13-hour day spent taking inventory with her co-workers, which included taking a smoke break as well as joking about some of the goods sold there .

“Okay guys, 13 hours later we were done,” she says to close the video. “I didn’t stay for the numbers but I’m pretty sure it won’t be good. So that’s over, I’m damn exhausted, my damn nails broke off, so rest, day 10 tomorrow and then vacation. Lord help me, I feel dead.”

Before she was fired from the company, Steph says she worked there for 16 years. The Daily Dot contacted @stephunleashed via Instagram direct message and Walmart directly via submission form regarding the video.

Many viewers in the comments shared that it’s unclear why Steph was fired based on the video alone. Several said they didn’t find anything wrong with what she showed in the video or how she expressed her feelings.

“What did Walmart fire you for?” wrote one commenter. “They show off their 1990’s scanners and explain how inventory works in every store in America? Wow.”

“Why did you get fired for this?” said another user. “I’m lost. Every retail business is like that when it comes to taking stock.”

“Lmao is no secret at all,” suggested a third. “It’s definitely not worth firing someone, that’s for sure. We’re sorry.”

Others proposed their own conclusions regarding the firing of the poster.

“That’s because the application to Walmart that you sign when you start work says you’re not allowed to take recordings or videos while you’re on the job, and if you get caught, they have the right to shut you down fire,” added one user.

“Yep instead of working she gets paid to make a video that’s a no no,” claimed a second.

“I was a manager at Walmart and I needed to make teens aware of their phones,” commented another TikToker. “All the time. Maybe it was just the fact that you were on your phone while getting paid.”
